What is the student section?

Our aim is to connect and support any students who want to get a foot into the door of captive and free-ranging wildlife medicine. Any EAZWV member that is currently a pre-graduate student or in post-graduate training (internship, residency, PhD program...) is automatically a member of the student section. The student section is led by the Student Board, which is elected by general vote at the Student General Assemblies.

Access to Members-Only Educational Opportunities

All student members can apply to participate once a year either in a Student Workshop or a Student Summer School. They’re always held in different European countries, to facilitate access to all students, and usually last 3 to 5 days . The past events have been very successful, with a great international spirit and the opportunity to learn from several specialists in different topics. For those with financial limitations, we offer grants to cover all or part of the participation fee. Student members can also access other student events, such as free online lectures and social mixers.

Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference - for students

All student members are eligible for a reduced fee for the annual Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference. During the conference, we also offer student events, such as the Students ’ Night Out, Student Section Meet -Ups and the Student-Mentor-Mixer . This gives you a great opportunity to network with other students and professionals. For those with financial difficulties, we offer grants to cover all or part of the registration fee.

Helping you find your next career step

EAZWV does not offer internships and externships, but we have a list of organisations and institutions that are open to receive externs or interns. We also maintain a list detailing all EAZWV members who we know currently do NOT offering placements to help you better gear your applications. You can check all the details in the Internships and Student Placements page. We also publish relevant job information on residency and PhD opportunities in our Instagram, Facebook Group and quarterly Newsletters.

You Decide What We Do

All student members can attend the Student General Assembly, where we present everything the Student Section has been working on for the past year, as well as our future plans and other important information . It's a great opportunity to get involved in the association and work in a team of motivated students that want to give our community the best opportunities. All student members have the right to vote on major issues presented at the assembly, and have the right to vote for their selected applicant to represent them at the student board. All current student members can apply to join the board. Click here to view the minutes of our last Student General Assemblies.

The EAZWV Student Activities Committee aims to increase student involvement in the EAZWV Student Section. The committee consists of five Student Members and one Student Board Member. Within the committee, students have the opportunity to organize educational events, such as lectures, workshops, courses, etc. Not only does this structure allow the Student Section to host more educational events, it also allows for committee members to build a network in the field of zoo & wildlife medicine. Committee members are free to organize events on topics pertaining to their own interests, and serve as the primary contacts for professionals that help us host our educational events.

For Student Members, becoming active in the Student Activities Committee is a one-year commitment. After this period, a new student will be granted the opportunity to join the committee. If you are interested in becoming more active within the EAZWV Student Section, or if you’d like to reserve a spot on the Student Activities Committee waiting list, please contact us at students@eazwv.org.
