Student Section

Are you a veterinary student with an interest in wildlife medicine?
Then the EAZWV Student Section is for you!

The Student Section welcomes undergraduate, doctoral and PHD students, interns and residents! If you are enrolled in one of these programmes as you register or renew your EAZWV membership you will automatically become a member of our Section.

Our aim is to connect and support any students who want to get a foot into the door of captive and free-ranging wildlife medicine. As a Student Member, you are entitled to reduced fees for the annual Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference. In close collaboration with the Education Working Group we organise different events during the conference, such as the Students’ Night Out and the Student-Mentor-Mixer. This gives you a great opportunity to network with other students and professionals in the area of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine.

During the conference you are also invited to attend the Student's General Assembly, where we present everything the Student Section has been working on for the past year, as well as our future plans and important information. It's a great opportunity to get involved in the association and work in a team of motivated students that want to give our community the best opportunities. Click here to view the minutes of our last Student General Assemblies.

Annually, we award dedicated students with various grants to both connect and support those with a desire for captive and free-ranging wildlife medicine. For more information click here.

In terms of practical knowledge, we offer once a year either a Student Workshop or a Student Summer School. It's always held in different European countries, to facilitate access to all students, and usually lasts 3 to 5 days. The last events have been really successful, with a great international spirit and the opportunity to learn from several specialists in different topics.

Finally, we know one of the main needs of students trying to get started in this area is finding places to do an externship and gain experience. That's why we are currently working on a list of Student Placements, so every student member can see the institutions that are available to receive externs or interns. You can check all details in Internships and Student Placements. We are also developing a very exciting collaboration with WDA that will allow EAZWV students to also access a recently established Mentoring Programme!

Your Student Board is working hard to give you all the professional and learning opportunities we can. Stay in touch through our facebook group and instagram (@eazwv_students), where we frequently post job offers, PhD applications and other interesting news. And we might have a few more surprises coming up...
