Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference - Prizes and Awards

Three awards are usually presented at the Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference:

  1. The student oral presentation awards
  2. The poster presentation awards
  3. The Rudolf Ippen Young Scientist award.

Assessment for oral and poster presentation awards are undertaken during the conference. The judging of the Rudolf Ippen award will be completed before the conference. 


1. STUDENT ORAL PRESENTATION COMPETITION

Abstracts submitted by students as first authors are automatically entered for these awards. 

There are two categories for this award - the eligibility criteria are laid out below:

Undergraduate Student Award (Primary Veterinary Degree)

  • The project presented at the conference must have been completely while the student was actively enrolled in an officially recognised undergraduate veterinary programme. However, the project does NOT need to be done at university.
  • The project must have been finished while the student was enrolled in an undergraduate programme, but it can be submitted to the ZWHC up to 12 months after the graduation date.
  • The student must be the first author on the submitted abstract.

Post-Graduate Student Award (MSc, PhD and residencies)

  • The project presented at the conference must have been completed while the student was actively enrolled in an officially recognised MSc, PhD or residency programme. The abstract/presentation needs to be related to the programme of study undertaken.
  • The project must have been finished while the student was enrolled in a post-graduate programme, but it can be submitted to the ZWHC up to 12 months after the graduation date.
  • The student must be the first author on the submitted abstract.


2. POSTER PRESENTATION COMPETITION

All posters accepted for the conference are automatically entered for this award.


3. RUDOLF IPPEN YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD

Professor Dr. Rudolf Ippen was a pioneer of the scientific discipline of wildlife pathology and co-founder of the International Conference on Diseases of Zoo and Wild Animals (now renamed as the Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference). In memory of Professor Ippen, who passed away in March 2009, and his outstanding commitment to wildlife medicine, EAZWV and Leibniz Institute for Wildlife Research jointly established “The Rudolf Ippen Young Scientist Award”. It is awarded annually at the Zoo and Wildlife Health conference.
