Hello everybody.

My name is Heather and I am a fourth year veterinary student at the University of Bristol. Having just completed an MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation, my passion for being a part of this wonderful community and playing an active role in the safekeeping of our species has blossomed. Having attended the EAZWV Conference and EAZWV Summer School on Elephants in 2018, I knew immediately that this organisation was something I wanted to get more involved with.

Exploring my interests within zoological and wildlife medicine throughout university lead me to becoming the veterinary student representative for the Primate Society of Great Britain. Being keen on research, I am in the process of publishing two papers, one regarding the efficacy of haematological diagnostics within neotropical psittacine health evaluations and the other evaluating haemoparasites in central american boa constrictors. I am also looking forward to upcoming externships at both the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and IZVG Pathology Department - both with the chance of publishable research opportunities. All species interest me greatly, and I enjoy the challenge of working with a wide range of animals; I do, however, enjoy both parasitology and pathology across the board.

As well as continuing the fantastic work of the previous board, I plan to further integrate the WDA student section with our own, set up a emailing system with regular opportunity updates for members and create a merchandising platform for the students of our community. Additional funds generated from this will be utilised to create further opportunities and experiences for our student members.

I look forward to meeting everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact me regarding any questions or suggestions!
