The 2015 Rudolf Ippen Young Scientist Award was issued at the International Conference on Diseases of Zoo and Wildlife Animals held in Barcelona to Dr. Dominik Fischer.
Dominik graduated from his veterinary medicine studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine,
Foundation, Hanover in 2009. He then went to the Giessen Graduate School of the Life Sciences (GGL) and PhD Program of the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (Topic: Assisted reproduction in large
falcons). He is about to complete his doctoral thesis on Aspergillosis in large falcons. Since 2013 he holds the (German) National Veterinary Specialist Status for poultry, companion birds and free-ranging birds. He is an active part of the community
as a veterinarian at the Wildfreigehe & Greifvogelstation Hellenthal, and as a Veterinary Advisor of the Taxonomy Advisory Group (TAG) “Falconiformes” of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (since 2014). In his early career, he has received
several prizes and grants, and shows a remarkable record of research stays, which have taken him from Belgium and the USA to Qatar and Brazil.
There is no doubt, that Dominik will continue being a very valuable member of our community!
