Student Communication Officer

Alex Haake

Call me Alex or Alexander. I hail from Ottawa (Canada). My home for the moment is Berlin (Germany). Asides from Germany and Canada, I have lived in Lithuania and USA.

I am in my 5th and final year of studies at the Freie Universität (FU) and will graduate in April 2018. I hope to continue as a doctoral student and intern.

With a great passion for all exotic animals, who fascinate with their amazing adaptations and specializations, colours and uniqueness, I wish to contribute towards the medical knowledge pertaining to them.
Among mammals I find Xenarthra and Tapirs especially fascinating. Fish, amphibians and birds intrigue me as well.

After joining the EAZWV in 2015 – attending the Conference in Barcelona in the same year and participating in the Summer School in Paris 2016 – I spontaneously decided to play a small part in assisting the EAZWV in its activities relating to aspiring zoo and wildlife veterinarians.

I have gained zoo medicine experience at three German zoos and the IZW, assisted in avian and exotic animal practice and volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Canada.

Do not hesitate to contact me with any of your enquiries, either in English or German.
