Aims, objectives and means

Aims
The Student Working Group (SWORG) promotes the aims, objectives and means of the European Association of Zoo- and Wildlife Veterinarians. Additional aims are to represent student member’s interests in negotiations and decisions of the board and the General Assembly of the European Association of Zoo- and Wildlife Veterinarians and to inform and promote students of veterinary medicine in education opportunities in zoo and wildlife veterinary medicine.

Objectives
The Student Working Group shall

  1. inform students of negotiations and decisions of the EAZWV on matters concerning student interests.
  2. promote collaboration between EAZWV and universities or veterinary faculties.
  3. exchange information and encourage other forms of collaboration with international veterinary student groups.
  4. provide relevant information on externship and internship opportunities in zoo and wildlife veterinary medicine within Europe.
  5. Means
    To achieve the objectives, the Student Working Group shall

    1. provide representatives to the board meetings of the EAZWV to promote and implement student interests.
    2. organize student meetings in addition to the annual General Assembly of the EAZWV.
    3. encourage the nomination of contact persons in universities and veterinary faculties.
    4. contact other international student groups and exchange information with them.
    5. organize the collection and publication of relevant information on externship and internship opportunities in zoo and wildlife veterinary medicine within Europe.

    Membership

    Membership
    All student members of the EAZWV (under-graduates and postgraduates until one year after completing their theses) are qualified to be members of the Student Working Group. Definitions:

    - Students: Every student member of the EAZWV
    - Sworg: Student members, who take responsibilities, work for the benefit of the students and represent them at Board meetings

    Rights
    Each student member of the EAZWV may participate in meetings of the Student Working Group. All student members of the EAZWV are entitled to vote at the Student Assembly.

    Obligations
    By adhering to the Student Working Group each member recognizes this Constitution and undertakes to follow it.

    Composition of the student working group

    The Student Assembly
    The Student Assembly is the annual meeting of student members of the EAZWV. It is entitled to:

    1. approve the annual report and to discharge the Sworg
    2. elect the President
    3. decide on the alteration of the Constitution and the disintegration of the Student Working Group
    4. decide on time and venue of the next Student Assembly.
    5. shall hold regular meetings once a year and extra-ordinary meetings according to a decision by the Board or upon request of 20% of the members of the Student Working Group.

    Decisions of the Student Assembly are taken by the simple majority of the student members of the EAZWV present and voting.

    The Sworg
    The Sworg decides on all students matters, as far as not determined otherwise by the Constitution. It has namely the following responsibilities:

    1. to convene the Student Assembly and to decide on its preliminary agenda; to present the annual report;
    2. to execute the decisions of the Student Assembly. The Sworg shall consist of the following officers:

    - Chairperson: two years (gets elected during the IZW conferences every two years, but only takes up the job from beginning of the following year onward)
    - Two student members responsible for organizing all student relevant matters for the next conference. One of the two always organizes the meeting thereafter as well and gets appointed a new co-worker, who will in return become the senior organizer the year after.
    - Two student members representing the students in the Educational Committee.
    - Active Sworg members (may, but don’t have to include a vice-chairperson) which numbers and titles will be appointed according to the tasks and goals which will be defined yearly during the students assembly.

    Re-elections of the President are possible. The Sworg shall be so composed as to reflect the international character of the EAZWV students members.

    Alterations to the Constitution

    Decisions on alterations to this Constitution shall be taken by the Student Assembly by a two-thirds majority of the students members of the EAZWV present and voting.

    Disintegration of the Student Working Group

    A motion to disintegrate the Student Working Group shall be communicated to the students members of the EAZWV, together with the Sworg’s comments, at least three months prior to the meeting of the Student Assembly. Decisions on the disintegration of the Student Working Group shall be taken by the Student Assembly by a two-thirds majority of the members of the Student Working Group present and voting.
