I´m Henrike, a doctoral student graduated 2008 from Hannover, . Since the IZW/ EAZWV Conference in Edinburgh 2007 I have been vice president of SWORG and in Hilvarenbeek, I was elected as president.
I joined EAZWV because of my keen interest in zoo- and wildlife medicine, which we all have in common, I guess. Fortunately I had the chance to work in different fields already. Externships at a safari park in Northern Germany, zoos, working with lemurs on and a scientific excursion to the Erongo mountains in only confirmed my choice.
After university I worked with Vesswic in Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia for seven weeks to learn as much as I can about elephants before I started my doctoral thesis and assistant veterinary work in the zoological and botanical garden “Wilhelma” in Stuttgart, Germany.
I am looking forward to get in touch with lots of interesting people. My aim is to forward communication between colleagues in a scientific, organizational and – last but not least – companionable way.
My main task here will be representing the students in front of the EAZWV board and receiving ideas from all the students (hopefully!), bundle them and get some nice and useful things started!
So whenever you have questions, ideas, wishes, suggestions or whatever else feel free to contact me!
Best wishes, Henrike
Tina Risch
Hey there, my name is Tina and I'm studying veterinary medicine in Munich/Germany. In 2011 I will graduate and hopefully start working in an interesting field of wild or zoo animal medicine.
Until then I'll try to gain as much experience as possible outside of university. Following the advice of some students I met at the EAZWV conference in Leipzig 2008, I volunteered at an animal rescue center in the amazon of Ecuador for 2 months. This trip had a very strong influence on me and so I decided to support the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians by getting a bit more involved.
Therefore I applied for the position as vice president of the SWORG and was elected at the Conference in Beekse Bergen 2009. Besides supporting and substituting Henrike in all her affairs, I'm also a part of the EAZWV's students board. Our aim is to represent students' interests and to encourage them to take part in exchange programs, summerschools, workshops and to find internships. In our oppinion this is a great way to gain new experiences, learn a lot and last but not least find new friends.
See you, Tina
Godelind Wolf
Hello everybody, I am Godelind, a doctoral student at the Veterinary Laboratory of the University of Zurich. In 2006 I became a student member of the EAZWV and since then I have participated in the first two student summer schools in Basel and Augsburg. In Beekse Bergen my active member period started, now I will be taking care of the student newsletter part. I grew up in Germany and have been living in Switzerland for the last two and a half years. During my studies I have experienced student life at the universities of Leipzig, Berlin and Zurich and I graduated in Berlin in 2008. My future goal is to become a pathologist with emphasis on wild and zoo animals. I have joined the EAZWV community to get to know people working in this fascinating field and to get a clearer idea of what zoo and wildlife medicine is about. In 2005 I have done an internship at the CVRL (Central Veterinary Research Laboratory) in Dubai. They are working with Falcons, camelids, desert birds and blood parasites like trypanosomes and babesia in these animals. Contact me if you want information on this topic. I hope to hear from you and I would be happy to help you publish your articles in our student newsletter part.

Stijn Peters
Hi,
my name is Stijn Peters. I'm from the Netherlands and I am a veterinarian since the 13th of May 2005. I used to study at the University of Utrecht. During my study I tried to learn as much as possible about exotic animals, birds and zoo animals. This resulted in two internships in Dutch zoos of which one was in Artis Zoo in Amsterdam. Another thing I did was visiting a lot of veterinarians that are specialized in exotic animals and birds.
At the Ebeltoft meeting in 2004 Sascha was looking for an assistant webmaster who could help Simon on the EAZWV website. Since I like to work on websites some Dutch vets recommended me. Now, a year later, the result is a completely renewed website for the EAZWV which Simon and I worked hard on. Besides keeping the website up-to-date I will work with the SWORG on other business.
Now I'm working at a large clinic to get experienced in the normal vet stuff. And it's a great opportunity to work on ferrets, since one of the vets is specialized in treating these little fellows. Who knows what kind of animals I will be treating...

Carsten Ludwig
Hey everybody,
After finishing my studies at Giessen university I started my work as a PHD student in Berlin. I work in cooperation with the IZW (Institute for zoo and wildlife research) on stress measurement in cheetahs. It is a project supervised by Dr. Bettina Wachter and Prof. Hofer.
I work with cheetahs in zoos and cooperate mainly with Allwetterzoo in Münster. My work is supported by our veterinarian Dr. Sandra Silinski. I accepted the challenge to substitute her as a vet during her maternity leave in the next time here at the zoo. I share this work with my colleague Birthe Voss from Hannover.
In the SWORG my aims are mainly to bring people with same interests together, support other students with their aims and ideas. I would like to work on a high level of cooperation and teamwork with other zoo veterinarians in fututre. In my point of view you can not start with that early enough.
Besides this I assist Stijn with the work on this website. If you have wishes, ideas or suggestions feel free to contact me.

Michael Stötter
Hi,
I’m Michael Stötter,
studying veterinary medicine in Hannover since 2006, and wishing to become a vet working with wildlife since many years.
Before starting my studies I have been working with falconiers, wildlife-carers and zoo keepers, and I’m sure that, besides enabling one to make an effort in conservation and other wildlife concerns, it is a very diversified and therefore interesting field to work in.
Since 2007, I’m a member of the SWORG, which turned out to be a great opportunity to meet a lot of people with common interests.
At the moment I’m trying to contribute to the great job our student organization is doing in means of education by taking responsibility for the scientific corner in our newsletter.
